Why I asked ChatGPT if I'll still have a job in 5 years

Saturday, 16 August 2025·1 min read· Business Mindset

Let's be clear: AI isn't some future threat. It's here — and it's cutting jobs in every sector.

Meta just posted $47 billion in revenue and still laid off thousands. Microsoft earned $24 billion in profits and trimmed 6,000 jobs in one quarter. Across Big Tech, over 100,000 jobs have been wiped out — not because these companies are failing, but because AI is replacing human capital.

And it's not just tech. Restaurants in Quebec are replacing waiters with robots. Construction sites are using drones instead of inspectors. Hospitals are replacing admin staff with AI systems. Oxford Economics says up to 10 million Canadian jobs are at risk of disruption in the next decade.

Sound familiar? It should. In the 1800s, the industrial revolution crushed millions of jobs — but it also created new industries for those who adapted. AI is today's industrial revolution.

So how do you not just survive, but thrive? Here's my AI Survival Blueprint:

1️⃣ Learn the Machine — Stop fighting AI. Learn the tools in your industry. A content writer who masters ChatGPT won't be replaced — they'll outproduce everyone else.

2️⃣ Pivot to Growth Sectors — Not every industry is dying. Cybersecurity, AI compliance, cloud, healthcare — these are growing.

3️⃣ Upskill Like It's an Apprenticeship — In the 1800s, workers trained to operate machines. Today, you need online courses, certifications, and real projects to stay employable.

4️⃣ Boost Your Value at Work — If you're an employee, use AI to make your company more productive. The one who brings solutions becomes indispensable.

The truth is harsh but real: in a capitalist system, those who adapt survive. Those who don't will be left behind.
