I got lucky
Happy New Year! 🥳 Regardless of how your 2023 went, it's a fresh start — a chance to continue what worked and embrace new endeavours, making 2024 the most remarkable year yet.
I've often been asked, "Navjot, how did you achieve so much in less than 4 years despite joining the scene in the midst of a pandemic?"
Well, there's a bit of luck involved too. Let me share a story, something that's been kept secret and hasn't made it to YouTube 🤐.
On Jan 20, 2020, we secured our PR. Our initial flight from India to Canada was set for Mar 18, 2020. However, we realized we'd been scammed by a travel agent for Rs. 1 lac (roughly $2,000 back then). Disheartened, we rebooked our flight for Mar 11, 2020, saving Rs. 5,000 (Haha!) and landed in Canada on Mar 12, 2020 — just four days before the lockdown.
I often wonder where we'd be if we hadn't been scammed and stuck to our original flight. Would we be where we are today? Maybe not… who knows! 🤷♂️
Before this incident, I believed that luck was just an excuse for a poor mindset. "You make your own luck," they say. I never fully grasped this quote. I still don't.
But sometimes, opportunities come in the most unexpected ways, labeled as "luck," but we must also acknowledge, be grateful, and act upon these opportunities.
Yes (and I can't believe I am saying this), we were fortunate to have been scammed by the travel agent, forcing us to reschedule our flight. But it merely opened the door; we had to step through it.
I worked 20 hours a day for three years to reach a point where both of us could leave our jobs and become full-time entrepreneurs.
Here are three lessons I've learned:
Things might be bad now. You might feel hopeless, but in some months or years, you might say "this was the best thing that happened to me."
Luck exists. How we capitalize on our "luck" depends entirely on us. Some might say, "That was lucky," and move on. I chose to say, "That was lucky; there must be a reason for it. Let's make the most of this opportunity." 🚀
Scientists tell us the odds of being born are 1 in 400 trillion. I could've been born as a tree or an ant. Yet here I am, able to read and write this. It could've been worse! 😳
This newsletter marks the beginning of an amazing and long-term journey. I aim to share my thoughts, providing you with light reading material for your Sunday tea. The goal is to prompt introspection as we continue to GROW TOGETHER 🚀
