Our Money, Not Yours and Mine
Let's talk about something that honestly doesn't get talked about enough: Money in relationships.
Not the flashy Instagram couple stuff. Not "Look at us on vacation." But the hard, slightly awkward conversations that actually build a life together. 💬
Why We Combine (Most) of Our Money
In our house, we think about money as our income, our expenses, our assets, our future. Because at the end of the day, it's our life we're building — together.
It's how we: ✅ Pay off the mortgage faster. ✅ Max out retirement accounts. ✅ Save for Arian's education. ✅ Build investments that pay us down the line.
Individual Budgets? Absolutely.
We both have individual budgets for fun stuff: clothes, gadgets, nights out with friends. We don't have to ask permission to buy a damn coffee machine or new sneakers. That's important for sanity. 🧠
But the Big Stuff? It's Ours.
Our mortgage, our investment accounts, our retirement plans — they're joint. Because our future is joint. We're both betting on the same team.
It also means when one of us gets a raise, we both get a raise. When one of us needs to scale back to focus on health or family, the team adjusts.
Why Talk About It So Much?
Because the truth is, money fights are the #1 reason couples break up. Not cheating. Not in-laws. Not who leaves socks on the floor.
So we talk about it. A lot. We set goals together, dream together, problem solve together. It's never perfect, but it's worked for us.
