We traded 3,000 POTATOES for a CAR
Last week, I talked about the $91,000 loss in my first business. Today, I am going to talk about my second business, where we sold potatoes with a TWIST!
Here's the business: Buy potatoes. Make a website where we ask people to write a message for a friend. Write the message on the potato. Put it in a funny box. Pack it well and ship to the friend.
We sold each box for an average of Rs. 300 + shipping. Our cost? Rs. 19 total.
We sold 3,000 of these boxes in 9 months and made Rs. 900,000 with a net margin of 80%.. NET! By the way, this was a copy of the US based business "Potato Parcel". We called it "The Viral Potato."
We bought a car with the money and my dad still drives it (makes me happy because he always wanted to drive an SUV). 🚗
This seemingly silly business is the primary reason for what I am doing today. When we came up with this idea, we made 10 potato boxes and sent them to social media influencers. We sent one to Prajakta Kohli (@mostlysane) 🤐
She posted the video on her stories, and we sold 300 boxes in one night. While we hustled to fulfill orders from my living room, I thought to myself — one random post from Prajakta made us Rs. 60,000 in one day! Imagine if she has her own line of products, how much money would she make selling things that she actually believes in 🤑
Long story short — that's how our first personal brand, Potato Talkies, was born. And now we've got Grow with Nav, where 2000 of you are reading the story of how it all started 🚀
I have done 300+ mortgages all from social media — and guess what, I paid $0 for customer acquisition. In fact, I get paid by YouTube in ad-sense revenue to acquire customers. That's the world we live in. 🙃
Which is the #1 reason, I always act on a half decent idea — you never know, you may just hit jackpot 💰💎
